The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Grim Lovelies (Grim Lovelies #1) by Megan Shepherd + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

This week I'm spotlighting one of my LOHF Anniversary Readathon reads, Grim Lovelies (Grim Lovelies #1) by Megan Shepherd.  I've been looking forward to this Paris set Cinderella retelling for awhile and I'm glad to jump into it for this readathon.

Beginning:

From the front-turret window of Mada Vittora's Paris townhouse, Anouk couldn't see the fountain at the far end of the Rue des Amants.

56:

A crow landed on the roof cresting, followed by another, and another.  Dozens of them.

50/50 Friday: Favorite/ Least Favorite Read of August

Favorite - Storm of Locusts (The Sixth World #2) by Rebecca Roanhorse - I read a couple of other five star books in August, but this one totally takes the cake.

Least - The Return of the Incredible Exploding Man by Dave Hutchinson - I ended up DNF'ing this ARC.  It had a lot of potential, but it just didn't work for me.

What are you reading this weekend?  Have you read any of these books?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

I am sorry The Return of the Incredible Exploding Man didn't work for you. I don't think I have heard of that one. I do like the sound of Storm of Locusts and am so glad you loved it.

  9. Sounds like you had a very mixed reading month. A few five star reads with a DNF in there. Storm of Locusts has a cool cover!

  10. I did finish the Hutchinson book, but it wasn't one I loved. It had potential but didn't quite come together, mainly due to major pacing issues.

Grim Lovelies is one I have seen around. It looks interesting and I hope you enjoy it.
