The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

Happy Friday everyone!  This week I'm spotlighting one of my current reads for the PopCulture ReadathonFour Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte.  I'm going for a blackout bingo on the Thrill Ride bingo board and this will fulfill the prompt I Know What You Did Last Summer - Read a 2019 release.  This YA fantasy sounds like it's going to be exactly my thing and I'm enjoying it so far.

Beginning:

Keralie

The morning sun caught the palace's golden dome, flooding the Concord with light.

56:

"You're a thief," he said, disgust dripping from his words.

"The best," I added with a grin.

50/50 Friday: Best Sequel/ Sequel That Let You Down

Best Sequel - Down Among the Sticks and Bones (Wayward Children #2) by Seanan McGuire - Seanan McGuire is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.  While I liked Every Heart A Doorway quite a bit, I absolutely loved this one.  I really need to catch up on this series.

Sequel That Let You Down - A Map of Days (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children #4) by Ransom Riggs - I loved the first three books in this series back when it was a trilogy, but to continue it as it has been here kind of feels like a cheat after how the original finale ended.  I still liked it, but I'm not exactly in a hurry to pick up The Conference of Birds.  I definitely will just not soon.

What are you reading this weekend?  Have you read any of these books?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  4. I agree - I love the world of Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children, but some of the story lines that have branched off aren't as cool. I do hope they adapt more of them to movies though! Thanks for sharing.

  8. Four dead queens seem like a good cozy, YA murder mystery! I've only read Miss Peregrine and nothing else in the series. Now I'm glad for that!

    1. The first three were great, but the next one didn't live up to the original trilogy.

  11. I still haven't read this book, but it's on my list. And oh my gosh, I LOVE that 56 snippet! I have a feeling I'm going to like that character. Best thieves are great. ;)

If Down Among the Sticks and Bones is your favorite, you totally need to get to Come Tumbling Down! #2 was my favorite until I read #5 (which is the newest one), and it just totally blew the second one out of first place. :D
