Wyrd & Wonder - Week 4 Update

Happy Tuesday and welcome to my fourth weekly update for (and the final day of) Wyrd & Wonder!  Wyrd & Wonder is a month long celebration of all things fantasy during this month of May.  It is co-hosted Lisa @ Dear Geek Place, imyril @ There’s Always Room For One More, Ariana @ Book Nook Reviews, Annemieke @ A Dance With Books, and Jorie @ Jorie Loves A Story.  Keep reading to see what I got up to since my last weekly update:

My Wyrd & Wonder Posts This Week:

What I Watched This Week:

The Order (2019-2020) - I was on the fence after I watched the first episode, but after watching the second I decided the show just wasn't working for me.  Like I said earlier, I like the concept, but it didn't keep my attention enough to keep with it.  It didn't improve enough either.

October Faction (2020) - After the watching the second episode, I decided I wasn't invested enough with this to keep going.  Plus, it started to get really annoying.  In the second episode we got to see more of the kids and they both really grated on me.  Plus, their whole "fluent" in Japanese thing was very off-putting to say the least.

The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box (2013) - I'm really disappointed in how this movie turned out. It sounded so cool too. Michael Sheen, Lena Headey, Sam Neill, and Ioan Gruffudd should have been able to save this. Their efforts earn a whole star.  I went into this thinking that Sheen was the leading character given that he takes such a prominent central location on the movie poster.

My review is also on Letterboxd.

 ❋ ❋

Black (2017) - I've only watched the first 3 episodes of this 18 episode Korean fantasy mystery thriller series with a dash of humor and I have a feeling it could become a new favorite.  It follows a woman that can see the shadow of death, a detective, and a grim reaper.  The first two episodes were pretty good, but the the third episode really takes off and gives you a new perspective on what's been going on.  I can't wait to see where this series goes from here!

What I Read This Week:

 ❋ ❋
The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow reminded me so much of why I enjoy this author's writing style. Historical fantasy is one of my favorite subgenres and the combination of the suffrage movement and witchcraft is a great one.  There are so many possibilities with it.  My only issue is that the novel is a little too long, and that it can be a little too slow from time to time.  The characters and the writing style itself are easily the best parts of the book itself.  I need to read more from this author in the future.  I don't know why I put this off for so long.

My review is also on Goodreads.

 ❋ ❋

Differently Morphous (DEDA Files #1) by Yahtzee Croshaw is my first book from this author and I know it won't be my last.  I'll have to try more from him in the future.  I liked how weird fantasy mystery was willing to be.  It's also sarcastic and absolutely hilarious.  I have a feeling the audiobook production of this would have been fantastic and I'll definitely be looking for more of his stuff in that format.

My review is also on Goodreads.
