Happy Thursday everyone! Today I'm sharing my my fourth update for my April progress for the year long reading challenge called The 52 Book Club's 2026 Reading Challenge. You can see my original tbr here. In May, I completed 6 books for a total of 31 read so far out of 52 total books on my tbr. More excellent progress! Keep reading to see my thoughts on the books I read in May:
13. Bookface
❋ ❋ ❋
The Last Legacy (The World of the Narrows #3) by Adrienne Young is the first book I've read from this author in a little while. I liked being back in this world and seeing a little more of it than we had previously. That said I was not interested in the romance of this and didn't particularly like the ending a whole lot either. My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.
7. Title starts with the letter "P"
❋ ❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
The Privilege of the Sword (The World of Riverside #2) by Ellen Kushner is a new favorite. I loved the characters and the world-building. I can't wait to read more books set in Riverside and anything else by this author. I had no expectations so consider me pleasantly surprised.
My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.
23. Grumpy sunshine trope
❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
Fire (Graceling Realm #2) by Kristin Cashore was a little different than I was expecting, given that it follows another character. That said, I was still glad to be back in this world and explore it a little bit more. It's quite a bit different this time around which I appreciated, especially how much our title character grows over the course of the story. I'm glad I read the audiobook because the production was great and the narrator did a good job bringing everything to life. I'm really looking forward to reading book three in the future to see what's next.
My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.
32. Publisher starting with the letter "B"
❋ ❋ ❋
The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray was a perfectly fine story about a real public figure, but I think I went into this wanting to know more about the job itself and the books than anything else. Otherwise, I appreciated the detail about her life and the world she lived in. I might have to try more from these two authors in the future.
My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.
6. Title starts with the letter "O"
❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
Ombria in Shadow by Patricia A. McKillip is a great and almost dream-like fantasy story. It's a short standalone novel but the world-building is absolutely engrossing and the characters are interesting as well. I think I'll have to try more from this author soon. I'm glad I just randomly picked this up at a thrift store one day.
My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.
28. From a series at least eight books long
❋ ❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
Silver Borne (Mercy Thompson #5) by Patricia Briggs just might be my favorite installment of this series so far. I really enjoyed seeing these characters again and how everything tied together in this one. I'm looking forward to reading book six and I hope I don't put it off for so long.
My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.
