Happy Tuesday everyone! All this month I'm featuring fantasy in honor of Wyrd & Wonder 2026 (a month long celebration of all things fantasy co-hosted by Lisa @ Dear Geek Place, imyril @ There’s Always Room For One More, Ariana @ The Book Nook, Annemieke @ A Dance With Books, and Jorie @ Jorie Loves A Story with artwork by Varvara Gorbash). Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday which is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is Favorite Secondary/Minor Characters, so in honor of Wyrd & Wonder I'm featuring Favorite Secondary Characters In Fantasy TV Shows. Here we go in alphabetical order by character:
Gabriel Boutin from The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself, played by Emilien Vekemans - I recently watched this Netflix tv series adaptation of Half Bad by Sally Green. I wouldn't call the series a favorite, but I still think it should have been renewed for a second season rather than cancelled after only one. That said, Gabriel is the real standout character of the series, even if I don't buy Vekemans as a nineteen year old character at all.
John Childermass from Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, played by Enzo Cilenti - I love the title characters, but Childermass is the character to keep your eyes on throughout this miniseries (and in Susanna Clarke's original novel).
Layla El-Faouly from Moon Knight, played by May Calamawy - This is one of my favorite MCU shows (and I really hope we'll get to see all of the characters again). Layla's cool and has quite an arc by the time the series ended.
Gwaine from Merlin, played by Eoin Macken - I just love this show and it's tough to pick just one favorite secondary character from the series, but whatever the case Gwaine is quite an entertaining character and at the top of the knights for me.
Donna Hanscum from Supernatural, played by Briana Buckmaster - I've got a lot of favorite secondary cast from this show, but Donna was so delightful and charming every time we got to see her.
Sally Jackson from Percy Jackson and the Olympians, played by Virginia Kull - I've really liked what this adaptation and Kull have done with the character. She's a real hero in her own right.
Runyan Millworthy from Carnival Row, played by Simon McBurney - I've only watched season one so far and while I liked getting to know all of the characters, but Millworthy was the real MVP for me. I'm really looking forward to seeing what's going to happen with his character in season 2, especially where we leave off with him and Jonah at the end of season 1.
Niko Sasaki from Dead Boy Detectives, played by Yuyu Kitamura - I loved all of the characters in this series, but of all of the secondary characters in the show, Niko was just so delightful. I wish the show wasn't cancelled!
Thing from Wednesday, performed by Victor Dorobantu - There are many characters I could have picked from this series, but Thing has always been of my Addams Family characters. Thing is so expressive and he totally steals the show. I wasn't expecting Thing's storyline at all in season 2 but it was awesome. I didn't expect to be so emotional over a disembodied hand!
Xylda from Midnight, Texas, played by Joanne Camp - This was such a fun urban fantasy series and I'm sad it got cancelled after only 2 seasons. It had a pretty broad cast, but it was always a lot of fun to see Manfred's ghost grandmother, Xylda, interact with her psychic medium of a grandson.
Are you participating in Wyrd & Wonder this year? Have you watched any of these shows? Who are your favorite secondary tv characters? As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
