Happy Saturday everyone! Today, I'm sharing my May update for Bookforager's Picture Prompt Book Bingo 2026. In May, I completed 1 out of 10 read so far of a total of 16 books on my tbr. Without further ado, keep reading to see my thoughts on the book I read in May for this challenge:
6. An acorn
❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
Nightshade and Oak by Molly O'Neill was one of my most anticipated early 2026 fantasy releases. I absolutely loved Greenteeth, so my expectations were incredibly high for O'Neill's next standalone novel. I don't think I liked it quite as much as her debut release, but I still greatly enjoyed this. The characters are all fantastic, but Mallt herself is my favorite of the group both before her transformation and after. I also loved getting to visit the world of Iron Age/ Roman Britain as well as exploring some Welsh mythology. It's not often I've had the chance to see the Iceni or anyone connected to Boudica in fiction, and I just got a kick out of that. Anyway, of the story itself, I preferred the first half of it a little more than the second half. I particularly enjoyed the portion on the way to Annwn to talk to Arawn, as Mallt is really coming to terms with her new mortal self. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the whole story, but I think that section was a bit stronger for me. Finally, I can't wait to read whatever Molly O'Neill cares to write in the future.
My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.
Have you read this book? Are you taking part in this challenge? As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
