Wyrd & Wonder 2026 - Sunday Funday: Week 4 Update

Happy Sunday Funday  and welcome to my fourth and final weekly update for Wyrd & Wonder!  Wyrd & Wonder 2026 is a month long celebration of all things fantasy co-hosted by Lisa @ Dear Geek Place, imyril @ There’s Always Room For One More, Ariana @ The Book Nook, Annemieke @ A Dance With Books, and Jorie @ Jorie Loves A Story (artwork by Varvara Gorbash).  This year (as always) has been a ton of fun.  I got in a lot of great reading and watching.  Keep reading to see what I've gotten up to since my last update.

My Wyrd & Wonder This Week:

What I've Watched This Week:

Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Season 2 -

❋.5

Episode 6: Tyson, you're a hero! That ending was stressful!

My review is also on Serialized.

❋.5
Episode 7: Blackjack is the goodest and Tyson deserves the world. It means a lot to me that Tyson called Sally.

My review is also on Serialized.

Episode 8: What an excellent season finale! I'm very excited that we'll be getting season 3 later this year. Courtney B. Vance certainly has presence as Zeus (RIP Lance Reddick). I loved the scene between Poseidon and Percy, and Tyson's moment there as well. I also appreciated how Clarisse is portrayed within the series as well and that she really gets her moments. Anyway, I was thrilled that we got both a sneak peek and a fun little end credit scene on top of that. I hope we won't have to wait too long until season 3.

Good Omens, Season 3 - Given everything, the final season/ the series finale episode ended as well as I could have hoped for.  I was very nervous considering that the final season was cut from what might have been six full episodes like the previous two seasons to one 90 minute long episode (or nearly two regular episodes).  After those allegations, I'm surprised the whole rest of the project wasn't totally dropped.  That said, I'm glad we got closure.  Aziraphale and Crowley as played by Michael Sheen and David Tennant are a couple of my favorite characters, so I was just happy to see them both one more time.  It ended about as well it possibly could have.  It's a bittersweet goodbye, but it mostly hit all the right notes for me.  *SPOILERS: I just wish they could have remembered all of their history together in the very, very end.*

My review is also on Serialized.

What I've Read This Week:

Magic Burns (Kate Daniels #2) by Ilona Andrews is a sequel I was putting off for quite awhile.  I'm glad this challenge finally got me to come back to it because this installment was a lot of fun.  I loved that we got to see more of the world and the characters are, especially our lead are very good.  I can't wait to see what's next for this series.

Silver Borne (Mercy Thompson #5) by Patricia Briggs just might be my favorite installment of this series so far. I really enjoyed seeing these characters again and how everything tied together in this one. I'm looking forward to reading book six and I hope I don't put it off for so long.

Ombria in Shadow by Patricia A. McKillip is a great and almost dream-like fantasy story. It's a short standalone novel but the world-building is absolutely engrossing and the characters are interesting as well. I think I'll have to try more from this author soon.  I'm glad I just randomly picked this up at a thrift store one day.

Nightshade and Oak by Molly O'Neill was one of my most anticipated early 2026 fantasy releases.  I absolutely loved Greenteeth, so my expectations were incredibly high for O'Neill's next standalone novel.  I don't think I liked it quite as much as her debut release, but I still greatly enjoyed this.  The characters are all fantastic, but Mallt herself is my favorite of the group both before her transformation and after.  I also loved getting to visit the world of Iron Age/ Roman Britain as well as exploring some Welsh mythology.  It's not often I've had the chance to see the Iceni or anyone connected to Boudica in fiction, and I just got a kick out of that.  Anyway, of the story itself, I preferred the first half of it a little more than the second half.  I particularly enjoyed the portion on the way to Annwn to talk to Arawn, as Mallt is really coming to terms with her new mortal self.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the whole story, but I think that section was a bit stronger for me.  Finally, I can't wait to read whatever Molly O'Neill cares to write in the future.
