Sci-Fi Month 2018 - The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Starflight (Starflight #1) by Melissa Landers + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

Welcome to Sci-Fi Month 2018!  Sci-Fi Month is a month long celebration of all things sci-fi and it's hosted by Imyril @ One More and Lisa @ Dear Geek Place (Image credit: Photo by Greg Rakozy on Unsplash, Quote from The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers).

This week I'm spotlighting my current Sci-Fi Month read, Starflight (Starflight #1) by Melissa Landers.  I've enjoyed her Alienated series and I'm liking what I've read of this Ohio author's new series.

Beginning:

What if nobody picks me?  Nothing can be worse than that.

56:

Doran peeked over her shoulder into the dim hallway.  "What now?"

50/50 Friday: Favorite/ Least Favorite Book With Food On The Cover - The first thing that came to mind were these two books with an apple both of which are by authors with the same last name.

I hope everyone who celebrated it had a great Thanksgiving yesterday!  What are you reading this weekend?  Are you taking part in Sci-Fi Month this year?  As always, thanks very much for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  2. Starflight looks and sounds great! I've never read any of her books though. Must change that!

I've added a Science Fiction book today! Here is my Friday post. Have a lovely weekend. May your books be with you! (Hint, hint!)

  3. I love your cover comparison, and finding two similar covers with authors who share a last name, brilliant😁

  4. I don't read much Sci-Fi, but this one looks like fun. Here's mine: “NIGHT OF MIRACLES”

  5. I have this one on my Kindle but haven't had a chance to read it yet. This week I am featuring Serpentine by Laurell K. Hamilton - the latest in a long-running urban fantasy series. Happy reading!

  9. I never put that together but the last names and the covers being the same are just funny. They are both cool covers but I do think Winter's prettier, just that glow to the apple gives it that little bit extra!

    Thanks for linking up!

  10. I ended up not participating in Sci Fi Month this year (the first time I haven't), but I was way too busy and didn't schedule my posts. I keep telling myself I need to start Melissa Landers' new series, but I haven't gotten around to it. :) I hope you are enjoying it!

I completely agree with you about Winter and Twilight. Twilight doesn't measure up to Winter in my opinion. :)

By the way, I just tagged you in a post over at my blog! It's the Greek Gods book tag! Hopefully you haven't done it before. :) I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break!

  11. Ooo I love the apple theme! Honestly, I can't even remember if apples are in a significant part of either of these stories... Still, they look gorgeous on any cover :) Thanks for linking up, Lauren!
