The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Unbound (Magic Ex Libris #3) by Jim C. Hines + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

This week I'm spotlighting one of my current #BeatTheBacklist reads, Unbound (Magic Ex Libris #3) by Jim C. Hines.  I loved the first two installments of the series.  Isaac is one of my all time favorite characters.  I mean, he's a librarian with cool magical powers - he can reach into books and magically pull items out from them.  How cool is that!

Beginnings:

My name is Bi Wei.  I was born in the Ming Dynasty, shortly before the alleged death of Johannes Gensfleish Gutenberg, the man most people today know as the father of the printing press.

We knew this man not as a creator, but as a force of death and destruction.  Johannes Gutenberg was a thief, a fraud, and a murderer.

56:

"You've been with this library longer than I have, and you're good at your job.  One of the best people I have.  When you're here.  I've tried to be flexible, and I've cut you as much slack as I could.

50/50 Friday: Favorite/ Least Favorite Book Boyfriend

Least - Joe Goldberg from You by Caroline Kepnes - I have to admit, though, Joe is a very likable character when he isn't being a complete psycho which is honestly most of the time we're in his head.

Favorite - Atticus O'Sullivan from Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles #1) by Kevin Hearne - Atticus is just an awesome character throughout this series.

What are you reading this weekend?  Are you taking part in any reading challenges this year?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting below!

  3. This does sound like a great series. I'll have to add it to my wishlist. Nice to see Hearne's books too. They are favorites of my brother. He grabbed my set before I could do more than read the first three. This week I am featuring Tsumiko and the Enslaved Fox by Forthright - an intriguing new fantasy. Happy reading!

  6. I'm on the fence about Unbound. I'm picky about my fantasy reads, but I like books about books and the teasers are good. Susan is wrapping up the month with a nonfiction book at Girl Who Reads

  7. A new author and great cover. The series sounds like quite an adventure I enjoyed Hounded. I now have the second book and really excited to dive in. Enjoy your weekend:)
