Magical Readathon N.E.W.T.s. 2020 - Announcement & TBR

As you may know, I've been taking part in this year's Magical Readathon, hosted by G. @ Book Roast. This year will be the final time for this readathon and I'm taking part in the conclusion with the N.E.W.T.s which will run from August 1st - August 31st as I've already taken part in the O.W.L.S. and the Visit Hogsmeade readathon.  I totally understand G.'s reasoning for making her decision and appreciate her for what she's doing and how things will be changing up in the future of the readathon next year.  If you are interested, you can watch her video where she discusses this here.

Now, on to the details of the N.E.W.T.s: To complete my course of study for the Magizoologist career path (in honor of one of my favorite characters, Newt Scamander) I am required to earn an Outstanding in Care of Magical Creatures, an Exceeds Expectations in Charms, and an Exceeds Expectations in Herbology.  This means that for Care of Magical I'll need to complete the prompts for all three grade levels (Acceptable, Exceeds Expectations, and Outstanding) by reading three books, and then for both Charms and Herbology I'll need to complete the prompts for Acceptable and Exceeds Expectations by reading two books for each.  In total, I'll be aiming to read seven books in total.  All of the books on my TBR below are books I've picked out from my personal shelves.  Keep reading to see what I'm planning to pick up for this readathon:

Care of Magical Creatures

Acceptable - Salamander: Fire on the cover/ in the title

My choice: Rose Under Fire (Code Name Verity #2) by Elizabeth Wein - I can't believe I've never read this companion novel to one of my favorite YA historical stories.  It's time to change that.

Exceeds Expectations - Flobberworm: Lazy is fine! Read something short

My choice: Feet of Clay (Discworld #19) by Terry Pratchett - I love this series so much and it's always fun to go back and read installments I hadn't read in the past.

Outstanding - Hagrid's Hut: Start a book with a snack

My choice: Blood Price (Vicki Nelson #1) by Tanya Huff - I've been wanting to start in on this urban fantasy series for ages and I think I'll have to try the tv adaptation called Blood Ties as well.

Charms

Acceptable - Cheering Charm: Read a humorous book

My choice: My Plain Jane (The Lady Janies #2) by Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows, and Brodi Ashton - I can't believe I've sat on this for so long seeing as I loved My Lady Jane so much. At least I won't have to wait too long to pick up the third installment!

Exceeds Expectations - Glacius: Freezing Charm. Read a book set in winter

My choice: The Golem and the Jinni (The Golem and the Jinni #1) by Helene Wecker - I've heard so many great things about this historical fantasy set in 1899 NYC and I'm looking forward to finally knocking it off my tbr.

Herbology

Acceptable - Puffapods: Flower on the cover

My choice: The Beautiful (The Beautiful #1) by Renee Ahdieh - I have a tough time saying to no to a vampire book (and for this readathon I'll be reading two).

Exceeds Expectations - Nettle Plant: Book that my be impactful

My choice: Underground Airlines by Ben H. Winters - I've had this alternate history on my shelf for too long, but this might be an excellent time to finally get to it.

Are you taking part in the final portion of the Magical Readathon?  Have you read any of these novels?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

    1. It does sound like G will be another themed readathon, but different than as it is now. This is going to be fun.
