The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Ninth House (Alex Stern #1) by Leigh Bardugo + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

Happy Friday everyone!  An especially happy day this week as today is my birthday, so happy birthday to me!  This week I'm spotlighting one of my PopCulture Readathon books, Ninth House (Alex Stern #1) by Leigh Bardugo.  Leigh Bardugo has quickly become one of my favorites, and this was marvelous.

Beginning:

By the time Alex managed to get the blood out of her good wool coat, it was too warm to wear it.

56:

Alex knew better than to look too closely, but in that fleeting moment she could have sworn they looked frightened.

50/50 Friday: Favorite/ Least Favorite TV Adaptation

Favorite - Good Omens - This is a no brainer for me.  This is hands down one of my favorite book adaptations (movie or tv) of all time.  As far as I'm concerned, it is perfect.  David Tennant and Michael Sheen are gems.

Least Favorite - A Discovery of Witches - I'm not a fan of the book series.  I actually only ever read the first one and am not interested in reading the rest, but I thought I'd give the tv adaptation a try when it was released on dvd.  I will say that I definitely prefer the show to the book, but I doubt I'll be coming back for more once the next season comes back.  I guess, I just liked seeing Alex Kingston, Louise Brealey, and Matthew Goode have the chance to all work together.

What are you reading this weekend?  Have you read any of these books?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  1. Hi there Lauren! I loved Ninth House!!!!!!! It was such an awesome book.

I also think Good Omens was a great adaptation. Loved both the book and the series.

I've only read the first book and watched the first series of A Discovery of Witches. I might continue with the series some or other time. But not the books. Didn't actually like it that much.

Hope you will have a good weekend! Here's my Weekend Book Friends

  8. well, I have to say, that opening line for sure grabbed my attention. I checked this book out once and never did get a chance to actually read it, and I'm thinking i need to give it another go, because it sounds great!

So much yes to the TV adaptation of Good Omens, too! Ahhh, I love it so much and I want to watch it again now. I hadn't seen that promo pic for it, but I love it. I could never get enough of those two.

  9. Completely agree with you on A Discovery of Witches! I never finished the series either. While the TV is much better than the book, I never finish the last episode and I'm not that torn up over it lol
