ARC Mini Reviews: Locklands, The Third Crossing, & What Moves The Dead

Happy Saturday everyone!  Today, I'm sharing three ARC mini reviews - Locklands (The Founders Trilogy #3) by Robert Jackson Bennett (released June 28th, 2022), The Third Crossing (War of the Last Day #0) by Karim Soliman (to be released August 1st, 2022), and What Moves The Dead by T. Kingfisher (released July 12th, 2022).  I received the ARCs of Locklands and What Moves The Dead from NetGalley in exchange for an honest honest review and The Third Crossing from the author in exchange for an hones review.  Read on to see my thoughts:

 ❋ ❋

Locklands (The Founders Trilogy #3) by Robert Jackson Bennett was hands down one of my most highly anticipated reads of this summer.  Somehow I was lucky enough to get approved on NetGalley for an ARC - I might have shrieked at my screen when I read that email!  It's tough knowing that it's the finale novel in the series because I just didn't want to say goodbye to this world or these characters yet.  I don't think I was quite as enamored with it as I was with the first two books.  It took a bit longer to get into this one as well.  That said this was still a great read, and I loved seeing the cast of characters again.  I especially appreciated that we got to see a little more of Clef's back story.  Overall, I'm really going to miss this series.  I really have to get caught up on Robert Jackson Bennett's work and I'm looking forward to whatever he does in the future.

My review is also on Goodreads.

 ❋ ❋

The Third Crossing (War of the Last Day #0) by Karim Soliman is a awesome prequel to what has been a great epic fantasy series.  I'm glad to have had the opportunity to read this series thanks to the author because it has easily become a top epic fantasy series.  This installment is a prequel to both Army of the Cursed and Tattered Banners and it's good to see everything starting to come together for the main series.  Karim Soliman's writing style is unique, and it totally works for this series.  The action is great, the magic system is cool, and the perspectives are very clearly defined and come together well.  Overall, I can't recommend this series enough.  If you are a fan of epic fantasy at all this series is a must read.  I'm looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.  Thanks again, Mr. Soliman!

 ❋ ❋

What Moves The Dead by T. Kingfisher was one of my most highly anticipated reads and I can't believe I got lucky enough to be approved for it on NetGalley.  Before this, I had never read anything from T. Kingfisher but I was totally sold as soon as I heard that this was a reimagining of Edgar Allan Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher.  I love that story and this did a fantastic job of putting an awesomely disturbing and unsettling new spin on the story.  I enjoyed getting to know Alex, but my favorite aspect was easily the setting and the gothic atmosphere.  The atmosphere is so thick you can almost taste it.  I know that sounds weird, but I definitely mean it as a good thing.  After finishing this story, I know that I'll absolutely need to read everything that T. Kingfisher has ever written and will write.

My review is also on Goodreads.

Have you read any of these books?  What have you been reading?  As always, thanks for visiting and perhaps even commenting down below!
