The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): The Red Scrolls of Magic (The Eldest Curses #1) by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

Happy Friday everyone!  This week I'm spotlighting one of my current reads, The Red Scrolls of Magic (The Eldest Curses #1) by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu, which is one of my 2020 Popsugar Reading Challenge books.  Magnus and Alec are two of my favorite characters from the world of the Shadowhunter Chronicles and it's nice to see them again!

Beginning:

From the observation deck of the Eiffel Tower, the city was spread at Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood's feet like a gift.

56:

He even acquired some new business, for when this pesky cult matter was wrapped up, of course.

50/50 Friday: Best/ Worst Read of the Last Decade

Best - Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles #1) by Kevin Hearne - A decade is a long time, so I decided to focus on books published in 2011 for this topic. I feel like I haven't talked about how much I love this series recently.  I've got two books left in the series and I don't want it to end.

Worst - A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy #1) by Deborah Harkness - This sounded so cool, but I wasn't a fan of the romance aspect which really took over the story.  I never continued to the series.  I have just finished watching season one of the tv adaptation which wasn't too bad actually.  Sure it had some cringey moments and the romance was a little excessive, but overall I enjoyed seeing both Alex Kingston and Matthew Goode on my screen - sometimes even in the same scene.

What are you reading this weekend?  Have you read any of these books?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  3. It took me a few seconds to figure out the cover. Something about the size of the author's name and the placement of the title made it hard to find it. Think I'll look for Hounded instead.

    1. Sometimes I have that issue too. Hounded is so good - I especially love the book on audio. :)

    1. I don't blame you at all. I've already decided that I'm not at all continuing the books, but I just might stick with the tv series. :)

  12. Aww, what a shame Harkness is your worst for this post. I've been doubting about getting this book for a while now, but I don't think I'll go with it after reading this.
