Visit Hogsmeade: A Mini Magical Readathon - Announcement & Potential TBR

Back during the month of April, I successfully managed to complete the Magical Readathon and the four O.W.L.S. for my selected Magizoologist career path (in honor of one of my favorite characters, Newt Scamander).  Plus, I completed the 2 O.W.L.S. for my bonus course of learning to operate locomotive trains.  You can see my wrap up post for that here.  Now G. @ Book Roast is back with a new Mini Magical Readathon: Visit Hogsmeade that will run from Monday, June 22nd through Sunday, June 28th.  It isn't required to complete this mini readathon if you're taking part in the O.W.L.S. and the N.E.W.T.S.  Since the theme for this year's O.W.L.S. (and upcoming N.E.W.T.S.) is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the first and only required prompt to complete is for the Marauder's Map for which you must read a book with a map.  Fred and George will have our backs and give us the map to sneak in to Hogsmeade.  All of the other nine prompts for this mini readathon are based around other Hogsmeade shops.  I've went ahead and picked out all ten books to fit the prompts I'd like to get to during the course of the week.  I doubt I'll make it that far but aside from the Marauder's Map, I'm also hoping to visit Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop, the Shrieking Shack, and Zonko's Tricks and Jokes.  Read on to see my Potential TBR:

1. The Marauder's Map - Read a book with a map

My choice: Court of Fives (Court of Fives #1) by Kate Elliott - I've never read this author before, but this sounds like it could be a great YA fantasy.

2. Three Broomsticks Inn - Read a book that's part of a trilogy

My choice: The Defiant (The Valiant #2) by Lesley Livington - The Valiant was such a pleasant surprise and I can't wait to see where the trilogy goes.

3. Madam Puddifoot's Tea & Cakes - Start a read with a cup of tea

My choice: The Counterfeit Detective (The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes) by Stuart Douglas - Sherlock Holmes is one of my favorite characters and this long series has featured a lot of fantastic Holmesian stories.  This seems like the perfect choice go with this prompt.

4. Hogshead -Not the most popular (has less than 10,000 ratings on Goodreads)

My choice: Necrotech (SINless #1) by K.C. Alexander - As of writing this (Sunday, June 7th), this book has 516 ratings.  I don't know about you, but it sounds and looks like an awesome cyberpunk story.

5. Honeydukes - Pink or green cover, or has sweets/ baked goods on the cover

My choice: Walk the Wild With Me by Rachel Atwood - It's a Robin Hood fantasy retelling.  Need I say more?

6. Zonko's Tricks & Jokes - Humorous read

My choice: Staked (The Iron Druid Chronicles #8) by Kevin Hearne - I can't believe this is the next to the last book in this series.  I'm not ready for it to be over, but I have to know what happens.  By the way, Atticus and Oberon make quite the comedic duo.

7. The Shrieking Shack - Read a horror or a thriller

My choice: Wax by Gina Damico - I won a copy of this awhile back and it's high time I finally give it a try.

8. Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop - Book written by a person of color

My choice: Children of Virtue and Vengeance (Legacy of the Orisha #2) by Tomi Adeyemi - I don't know why I've been putting this off for so long. Book one was brilliant and it's time I take the plunge with the sequel.

9. Owl Post - Book you got via post or last book you added to your TBR

My choice: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (The Hunger Games #0) by Suzanne Collins - I'm not sure what to think about the whole young President Snow thing or that title, but I have to give it a try.

10. Dervish and Banges - Steampunk read

My choice: The Six-Gun Tarot (Golgotha #1) by R.S. Belcher - This is a steampunk fantasy western horror and it sounds like it's going to be right up my alley.

Have you read any of these books?  Are you going to be taking part in this mini readathon, or did you participate in the O.W.L.S.?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  1. I have read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and it's actually a very fitting title. I wasn't sure about the whole President Snow thing either, but I wasn't disappointed.
