The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): These Ruthless Deeds by Tarun Shanker & Kelly Zekas + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

This week I'm spotlighting one of my upcoming reads, These Ruthless Deeds (These Vicious Masks #2) by Tarun Shanker & Kelly Zekas.  I really enjoyed book one in the series which is described as Jane Austen meets the X-Men and I can't wait to try the sequel!

Beginning:

The door was locked.  The door was always locked, no matter what room she woke up in.  But she tried the handle anyway, jiggling it as quietly as possible, trying desperately not to disturb her captors.

56:

Of course it had to be a sick child, I was grousing to myself.  Why couldn't it have been a sick factory boss who exploited children?  Or a sick orphanage director who denied children extra gruel?  Those I could have refused easily.

50/50 Friday: Favorite/ Least Favorite Sidekick

Favorite - Dr. John H. Watson from Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle - It was a hard decision, but Watson might just be the granddaddy of all the best sidekicks!

Least - Marvin the Paranoid Android from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams - As awesome as some of Marvin's scenes are, I don't think I could deal with all of his moaning!

As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  3. This book is on my wishlist. I liked the first book too. This week I'm reading Crimson Death by Laurell K. Hamilton from my TBR mountain. Happy reading!

  4. Watson is the best! Sherlock in general, though :D

I really need to read These Vicious Masks asap! What I really need to do is make an end of the year TBR. My semester at university ends two weeks before the end of the year and I'm thinking of getting some serious reading done during that time.

    Thanks for linking up, Lauren!

  6. The cover really caught my eye. Plus, I'm always curious about books with co-authors.

Is it told from a couple of points of view?

I agree Watson is the best sidekick.

  8. Oh Marvin... haha I totally agree. I loved his scenes in the movie and book, but my goodness... If I had to spend a lot of time with him I definitely would have gone mad.
