Sci-Fi Month 2018 - Announcement & Potential TBR

Welcome to Sci-Fi Month 2018!  Sci-Fi Month is a month long celebration of all things sci-fi and it's hosted by Imyril @ One More and Lisa @ Dear Geek Place (Image credit: Photo by Greg Rakozy on Unsplash, Quote from The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers).  I had a lot of fun participating the last two years, so I'm glad to be back this time around!  I'll still be doing my regular posts, but some of them, like my Music Monday, Top Ten Tuesday, and The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings) + 50/50 Friday posts, may have a sci-fi flavor.  I'm also planning on doing some book to movie reviews as well as sci-fi movie reviews.  At the end of the month, I'll also be holding a giveaway - so be sure to keep your eyes open for that!  Read on for my potential sci-fi tbr for the coming month (the first seven below are stories that I must get to and will attempt to read through first):

My Potential TBR:

ARCs From NetGalley -

Head On (Lock In #2) by John Scalzi - Last time I read Lock In and I was hooked and I'm really looking forward to tackling this standalone sequel.

Limetown by Cote Smith, Zack Akers, & Skip Bronkie - I love the sci-fi, mystery, horror podcast and I'm really interested in this prequel novel.

The Ghost Engine by Theresa Fuller - I don't know about you, but this sounds like an interesting steampunk novel featuring Ada Lovelace.

#BeatTheBacklist Challenge -

Morning Star (Red Rising #3) by Pierce Brown - I've gotten hooked on this series which I started this time last year.  This will also fulfill a square on my Fall Bookish Bingo board.

Book Riot's 2018 Read Harder Challenge -

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (Wayfarers #1) by Becky Chambers - This sounds like such a cool series opener and I've had a lot of wonderful things about it.  Plus, it will also fulfill a square on my Fall Bookish Bingo bingo.

Fall Bookish Bingo -

Obsidio (The Illuminae Files #3) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff - I love this series, but I don't know if I'm ready for it to end yet.

Renegades (Renegades #1) by Marissa Meyer - Meyer has written some of my all time favorites and I'm quite looking forward starting her new superhero series.

Everything Else I Want To Try Get To -

Unwind (Unwind #1) by Neal Shusterman - Somehow I've never read this author before, so it's high time I jump in.  By the way, one of my favorite narrators, Luke Daniels, performs this story on audiobook!

Starflight (Starflight #1) by Melissa Landers - I'm definitely interested in try more from the author of the Alienated series.

The Diabolic (The Diabolic #1) by S.J. Kincaid - I have no clue why I haven't already tried this one... what better time than Sci-Fi Month to try it, though.

Alif the Unseen by G. Willow Wilson - I absolutely love Wilson's Kamala Khan & this novel is described as being for fans of Neal Stephenson.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury - I've never read this classic and this month I plan on correcting that - and trying the new movie adaptation featuring Michael B. Jordan.

Six Wakes by Mur Lafferty - This sounds like a tight sci-fi mystery and the description makes me think of Gangers and The Flesh from Doctor Who.

The Dark Side by Anthony O'Neil - Sci-fi noir set on the moon?  Say no more!

Heroine Complex (Heroine Complex #1) by Sarah Kuhn - This superhero series just sounds like a lot of fun!

Leviathan Wakes (The Expanse #1) by James A. Corey - I've heard so many great things about this book series and the tv series adaption.  I need to get started on it!

Ancillary Justice (Imperial Radch #1) by Ann Leckie - This totally sounds it will live up to the hype!

Apollo 23 (Doctor Who: New Series Adventures #37) by Justin Richards - I do like reading these tie-in stories, sometimes the authors get the tone exactly right.

Border Princes (Torchwood #2) by Dan Abnett - I like this Doctor Who spin off and this will be my first tie-in novel for the series.

Pastworld by Ian Beck - I love Westworld and this sounds like a YA take on that sort of story, but instead of the Old West it features Victorian London.

Congrats if you've made it this far!  Are you taking part in Sci-Fi Month this year, or have you participated in past years?  Have you read any of the novels on my tbr?  If so, which should I read first?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  2. Ooh you've got some awesome looking stuff lined up. Yay for Small Planet and I thought Six Wakes was pretty good. I haven't read the Expanse books but I'm watching the show and it's quite good!

  3. Thank you for making my 10 book TBR look small. :) I read Starflight a couple years ago and loved it, so I definitely give high recommendations for that one. (Especially considering I didn't think I'd like it that much.) I'm also hoping to finally read The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet this month. Good luck getting to your whole TBR and I hope you enjoy them all!

  5. I have the first Red Rising book on my TBR and I'm really looking forward to it, and I've had Fahrenheit 451 on my regular TBR for years but still haven't gotten around to it. Happy reading! :)

  6. There are SO many awesome books on this TBR - I can't wait to hear how you get on with them. I'm also keen to swap thoughts on the new adaptation of Fahrenheit 451 when/if you get to it - I saw it on my last flight back from the US and... yeah, I'd like to have someone to chat about it with :D (especially someone who has read the book more recently than I have - it's a few years since I read it!)

  7. Hello fellow space adventurer, I'm just checking out all of the TBR lists that have been shared as part of SF Month!

You have some really great books on your TBR! I really hope you enjoy The Long Way... and Obsidio. Honestly, part of me couldn't wait for Obsidio when it came out but a bigger part of me also didn't want it to be over!
