Mini Reviews - The Gift of Quoxxel, The Chosen, & The Morgans and the Jewel of Bar-Ran

Happy Thursday everyone!  Today I'm sharing three mini reviews with you: The Gift of Quoxxel by Richard TitusThe Chosen (Arcane Kingdom Online #1) by Jakob Tanner, and The Morgans and the Jewel of Bar-Ran by K.T. Dady.  I received copies of these books from the authors directly in exchange for honest reviews.  Thanks again to Richard Titus, Jakob Tanner, and K.T. Dady!  Read on to see my thoughts on these books:

I've read a lot of humorous and absurd novels, but I think The Gift of Quoxxel by Richard Titus might just take the cake.  Honestly, though, I mean that the book is just plain weird in the best way.  The style wouldn't be for everyone, but I definitely appreciated the author's style here.  It's difficult to explain exactly what it's about aside from a king trying to leave his paradise island kingdom in the middle of nowhere and pirates.  Regardless, it's a story that totally needs to be experienced.  I particularly enjoyed the dry and sarcastic sense of humor, the dialogue, and the fantastic sense of imagination of the world.  Overall, I'm totally looking forward to see more of what Richard Titus does in the future.

I read this ebook from July 28 - 29, 2019 and my review is also on Goodreads.

The Chosen is a pretty fantastic LitRPG series opener.  I haven't read many books in the genre, but I know I'm going to have to read more.  I'm glad I decided to give it a try when the author offered me the opportunity to read it for review.  Clay's story drew me in immediately and I found myself hooked.  I especially enjoyed getting to know his thought process while he's creating his character.  Essentially the story is this: Clay is dying of a disease in the real world and he has no choice but to undergo the risky procedure to have his consciousness uploaded into the fantasy RPG game called Arcane Kingdom Online if he wants to survive (and become practically immortal at that).  There's a glitch in his new world that just might do him in once and for all.  Clay will have to learn the rules of his new reality if he wants to survive.  The novel isn't without its flaws as it could do with another round of edits, but it was still a lot of fun to explore the world of the Arcane Kingdom Online alongside Clay.  If you enjoyed Radioactive Evolution by Richard Hummel and Aaru by David Meredith, I have a feeling you'll want to read The Chosen (Arcane Kingdom Online #1) by Jakob Tanner.  I'm looking forward to continuing the series with Dark Magic.

I read this ebook on July 29, 2019 and my review is also on Goodreads.

The Morgans and the Jewel of Bar-Ran by K.T. Dady is a gem of a Middle Grade fantasy adventure novel.  It follows the five Morgan kids who have been transported to Bar-Ran, a magical world that will be destroyed unless they can find the royal dragon and replace its heart. They just want to go home, but this wizard sent them on a quest that will change their lives.  I loved that each kid gets their own time to shine and each personality is well defined.  Of course, I also enjoyed the sense of magic and adventure of the world that they find themselves stuck in.  My only issue is that intro which could easily be pared down to fit the rest of the story.  Overall, I believe fantasy fans of all ages will love to explore Bar-Ran if they've also enjoyed getting to know the worlds of Narnia, Wonderland, and Neverland.

I read this novel from July 28 - 31, 2019 and my review is also on Goodreads.

Have you read any of these books, or have I piqued your interest?  What are you reading now?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  1. I like the idea of The Chosen, being uploaded into a video game. I'm pretty sure I've read another book with a similar premise, but it is a cool idea😁

  3. I also really appreciated The Gift of the Quoxxel! Like you said, I found it's style to be so refreshing and different. While it is an acquired taste, while reading I felt like it opened my mind a bit more to asking the strange and ridiculous questions. Sort of stretching my creativity. It's definitely a book I don't recommend often enough!
