Sci-Fi Month 2021 - The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Dauntless (The Lost Fleet #1) by Jack Campbell

On Friday's I take part in two weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, and Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader.  For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader.

Happy Friday everyone!  In honor of Sci-Fi Month 2021 (Image credit: Photo by Liu Zishan on 123RF.com with a quote from Babylon's Ashes by James S.A. Corey), this week I'm spotlighting the Sci-Fi Month read I just finished, Dauntless (The Lost Fleet #1) by Jack Campbell.  I just happened to stumble upon this series a few months ago.  I knew next to nothing about it going in, but I ended up really enjoying it.  It's more military sci-fi than I'm usually interested in, but now I can't wait to see what's next in the series.

Beginning:

The cold air blowing in through the vents still carried a faint tang of overheated metal and burned equipment.

56:

Captain Desjani bared her teeth.  "A null-field.  It does exactly what the name says, temporarily nullifying the strong force that holds atoms together."

Have you read this book?  Are you taking part in Sci-Fi Month this year?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting below!

  5. I rarely read Sci-Fi but I know others that only read Sci-Fi. In some ways our lives seem to be heading toward Sci-Fi endings. Sigh. My Friday quotes come from The Authenticity Project

  6. I'm not much of a sci-fi reader, or a military book reader, but I like an exciting story! Thanks for sharing the opening sentence on Book Beginnings.
