The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): The Quest (The Survivalist #3) by Jerry Ahern

On Friday's I take part in two weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, and Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader.  For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader.

Happy Friday everyone! This week I'm spotlighting one of my TrekAThon books, The Quest (The Survivalist #3) by Jerry Ahern.  I found some of the books in this 80s series at a library book sale awhile back and I'm finally continuing on with it.  Yes, they totally read like a Chuck Norris movie and make me feel awfully manly inside and I don't expect this one to be any different!

Beginning:

Sarah.  Michael.  Ann.  Alive.  God - Rourke thought as he walked briskly through the woods beyond the gutted framework of his house, the note Sarah had written and nailed to the barn door folded tightly in his wallet - but why do I need a wallet?  Driver's license, Social Security card, concealed weapons permit - the latter made Rourke laugh - he wanted to laugh for the first time since the night of the war.  Concealed weapons permit, he laughed again.  He walked on, the Python strapped to his right hip in the Ranger leather camouflage rig, the twin stainless Detonics in the Alessi shoulder holsters under his leather jacket, the Colt CAR-15 slung under his right arm, muzzle down, his thumb hooked in the carrying handle under the scope.

56:

He went to another cabinet, this time below the counter level, and extracted a half-gallon bottle of Seagram's 7, twisted off the cap, breaking the stamp, and poured a good three inches in the beer mug over the ice, then closed the bottle and replaced it under the counter.  He returned to the sink and added two inches of water to the glass, shut off the water, then turned off the pump switch.

See what I mean?  So manly!  Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Rourke pulled a Major Scott McCoy (as portrayed by Chuck Norris) from The Delta Force (1986) at any point during any of these books:

Have you read this book?  Are you participating in this readathon?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  2. I love it when I find treasures at library sales. One time I was so thrilled to find a CD of music by a favorite group, then got home and discovered that the case was empty. Ha!
