The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): All The Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

Happy Friday everyone!  Today, I'm sharing fifth read (selected by drawing the name from my Baby Groot planter) for the My Own Books Reading Challenge which is being hosted by Anne @ My Head is Full of Books, All the Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater.  I'll admit, I'd been putting this off for awhile even though I know it's going to be good (and it is so far).  I do know that I need more of Maggie Stiefvater's voice in my life.

Beginning:

You can hear a miracle a long way after dark.

56:

Squinting against the brightness, she discovered that several owls had gathered on the rim above her head, their talons making familiar scratching sounds against the metal.

50/50 Friday: Character Most/ Least Likely To Laugh At An Inappropriate Time

Most - Ronan Lynch from The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater - I thought I'd stick with this author and I can definitely see Ronan doing this of any of her characters.

Least - Mr. Gray from The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater - He quickly became one of my favorites and he definitely has great humorous moments even after everything he's done, but of everyone he strikes me as least likely to do this.

What are you reading this weekend?  As always, thanks for visiting and perhaps even commenting down below!

  1. That's a great opening! I'm already speculating about what miracle is about to occur. The owls sound ominous, especially since they're perched overhead and their talons are scratching.
My Friday post features excerpts from Buffalo Gal.

  2. I haven't read All the Crooked Saints either, which makes me sad because I'm such a huge Stiefvater fan😁

  3. I don't think I remember Ronan ever laughing. But I suppose if he were going to, it would be over something that nobody else finds funny.
I also like how this post all about Maggie Stiefvater.

  8. A friend got me an autographed copy of this one last July. I haven't started it yet. Today I am spotlighting Spellslinger by Sebastien De Castell. Happy reading!

  9. You are doing great on your challenge. I am reading my seventh book for the challenge, but pulled a different book of the shelf. I needed something lighter. I loved ALL THE CROOKED SAINTS. I hope you enjoy it. The magical realism was so fun to untangle. My review and quotes for VOICES

  11. I hope you enjoy All the Crooked Saints. I still have to finish Stiefvater's Shiver series (found Sinner at the thrift store!). I've only read the first Raven Cycle book, but I agree with you on Ronan :)
