Disney-a-Thon: Team Beauty And The Beast Wrap Up & Reviews

Happy Wednesday everyone!  I hope everyone is staying healthy.  It's official! I've completed two maps for the Disney-a-Thon - Team Hercules and Team Beauty and the Beast!  You can see my original TBR post here and my reviews for my Team Hercules books here.  I'd say I had a pretty great reading month.  Keep reading to see my mini thoughts on my Team Beauty and the Beast reads here:

Belle: Read a book with a grand adventure

❋ ❋

Uprooted by Naomi Novik is my first official book from this author.  It's been recommended to me time and time again and I'm glad I gave it a try.  It's a very fairy tale-esque fantasy.  Even though it has many glowing reviews and had been recommended to me many times, it never quite lived up to my sky high expectations.  It started off strongly and I adored the first quarter of the novel.  After that though, it just didn't quite hold my attention throughout.  I think most of that ties into the cast since I felt a little disconnect from them and I wasn't a fan of the romance which wasn't really a surprise.  That said, I still think this was well worth reading and I'm really looking forward to trying more from Novik in the future, especially her Temeraire series.

My review is also on Goodreads.

Beast: Read a book with a misunderstood character

❋ ❋

I'm glad I decided to try this historical fantasy Arthurian retelling that focuses on Gawaine. I can't resist Arthurian stories and Hawk of May (Down the Long Wind #1) by Gillian Bradshaw presents an intriguing perspective featuring many well known figures. I liked that there's a good bit of history to go with the fantasy element and that it doesn't seem to take itself too seriously. I really need to continue the trilogy. It might have taken this a minute to get off the ground but once it does you'll be hooked.  By the way, the Welsh I've been studying via Duolingo was actually somewhat useful.  At least I had a good idea of how to pronounce names and places!  I'm looking forward to picking up Kingdom of Summer in the future.

My review is also on Goodreads.

Lumiere: Read a book you predict will be a 5 star

❋ ❋  ❋

Night Watch (Discworld #29) by Terry Pratchett is officially one of my new favorite Discworld novels.  I've always enjoyed seeing Sam Vimes, but he really outdoes himself here.  The time travel is so fun and it's a cool to see his origin story in a way.  Plus, it was great to see the relationship between Vimes and Vetinari.

My review is also on Goodreads.

Cogsworth: Read a book where time is running out for a character

❋ ❋

Rachel Caine is one of my favorite authors and Ill Wind is a strong opener for the Weather Warden series could be another favorite series.  The characters are fun and down-to-earth and I loved the road trip aspect.  Plus, the magic and sense of mystery are quite fun as well.  I can't wait to continue the series with Heat Stroke.

My review is also on Goodreads.

Chip: Read the group book

❋ ❋

I was really looking forward to reading A Heart So Fierce and Broken (Cursebreakers #2) by Brigid Kemmerer because I loved the first installment of the series so much.  Grey was my favorite character from the first book and it's wonderful that he gets a lot more page time here as he gets to take the lead here in the sequel.  Grey is, as expected, marvelous here.  He's really been put through the wringer and goes on quite the journey of self-discovery.  I also loved that we get to see a lot more of the world of Emberfall and there's a lot more to it than I would have initially suspected.  That said, I don't think this was quite on the same level as book one.  It wasn't quite as engrossing, and I wasn't as invested in our other main perspective character, Lia Mara, until the end that is.  Plus, I missed regularly reading from Harper's perspective and I missed that we didn't get to see her that much though I did appreciate that we got to know Jake and Noah a little more.  Don't even get me started on Rhen.  What the heck, Rhen!  Come on!  Finally, after an ending like the one we get here, I'm dying to read A Vow So Bold and Deadly and I'll be rooting for Grey the entire ride.  Can January 2021 come any sooner?

My review is also on Goodreads.
