Sci-Fi Month 2021 - Week 4 Update & Giveaway (US Only)

Happy Tuesday and welcome to my fourth and final weekly update for Sci-Fi Month 2021!  Sci-Fi Month is a month long celebration of all things sci-fi and it's hosted by Lisa @ Dear Geek Place and Imyril @ One More.  (Image credit: Photo by Liu Zishan on 123RF.com with a quote from Babylon's Ashes by James S.A. Corey).  I can't believe November has come and gone already.  It's been a bit longer than usually than my regular weekly update, but I thought I would make this the grand finale.  Anyway, it's been a great nine days since my last update!  Keep reading to see what I've been up to since my last Sunday Funday update & enter a giveaway (US only).  You can also check out my previous weekly updates here: Week 1, Week 2, and Week 3.

My Sci-Fi Month Posts Since Last Time:

What I Watched Since Last Time:

 ❋
Tales from the Loop was so promising.  It's very well made and I really liked the overall premise of the story.  Plus, t's always good to see Rebecca Hall.  That's said it's also incredibly slowly paced.  It never quite hooked me as much as I would have liked.  I only ended up watching the first episode - it was good, but just not quite enough to make me want to come back for more.  Overall, it reminded me of Dark on Netflix, but unfortunately it never really me in like that series.

 ❋
This week I finished the second half of Rugal.  This series started off pretty well and I was enjoying this superhero adjacent sci-fi action thriller. It doesn't waste anytime and moves quickly with some unexpected twists and turns. It's always good to see Choi Jin-hyuk in a main role as well. I liked him in Tunnel, and it was cool to get to see him do a lot more action here. It also good to have a villain character who really gets a kick out of what they do and I could definitely say that's the case in this series. About at that halfway point through the show started to go downhill. The writing wasn't as strong and some of the dialogue isn't as great. I also had questions to things that I thought they would answer but never did. Also it gets confusing like, I thought I must have missed something but some of the decision making became very questionable. Also don't get me started on Kang Gi-beom's haircut near the end - that was about too much.

What I Read This Week:

DNF'd @ 20%

Ready Player Two (Ready Player One #2) by Ernest Cline was a boring mess. I enjoyed the first book too so this was quite a disappointment. It wasn't great, but at least it was fun. This sequel though totally killed that off though. Wade is incredibly irritating in this one though, or at least the first fifth of it anyway. I can't believe I wasted my free Audible audiobook credit on this novel, but at least I didn't actually spend money on it?

My review is also on Goodreads.

 ❋ ❋ ❋
The Electric Heir (Feverwake #2) by Victoria Lee was absolutely outstanding. I was so excited for this based in how much I loved Feverwake, and I was a little nervous for this. I shouldn't have worried though. I wish I had more stars to give it. I don't want to spoil anything, but if you haven't read this series yet you absolutely need to read it. I'm also going to need to read more from Victoria Lee as soon as possible.

My review is also on Goodreads.

 ❋ ❋ ❋
Aurora's End (The Aurora Cycle #3) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff was one of my most highly anticipated releases of this year and it lived up to my sky high expectations. I don't want to give anything away, but everyone was sent off spectacularly. It's got some great twists and turns, so you'd better buckle up! Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff make one heck of a team.

My review is also on Goodreads.

  1. Tales from the Loop was a bit disappointing, I must say. I powered through the series because I really like his art, but I thought it could have been so much more.

  2. I had my suspicions about Ready Player Two. It seemed like a great idea for a book, not really the kind of thing that would hold up in sequels

  3. I need to catch up with the Aurora Cycle and also start Victoria Lee's series. I enjoyed your SciFiMonth posts so much! Can't wait until next year😁

  4. I need to pick up some Victoria Lee. Always a good sign when the second book in the series lives up to the expectations of the first.
