Happy Sunday Funday on a Saturday and welcome to my first weekly update for Wyrd & Wonder! Wyrd & Wonder 2024 is a month long celebration of all things fantasy co-hosted by Lisa @ Dear Geek Place, imyril @ There’s Always Room For One More, Ariana @ The Book Nook, Annemieke @ A Dance With Books, and Jorie @ Jorie Loves A Story (artwork by Ehtisham Sajid). Normally, I would make the post on the first Sunday of the challenge, but since a full week hadn't passed I figured I'd wait until now. Anyway, this is always such a fun monthly challenge to take part in and I've already made some great progress. Keep reading to see what I got up to since this monthly event began:

I binged all eight episodes of Dead Boy Detectives, Season 1 (2024) and I loved every second of it. It's easily one of my new favorite Netflix series. Honestly, I feel like I already need to do a rewatch. Every episode is great in its own right, but I'd say my favorites were episodes 3, 4, and 7. I appreciated that the show just drops us right into their world. The case of the week format with overarching storyline for the season really worked for me. I loved the blend of horror, fantasy, mystery, and its sense of humor. My favorite aspect of this though are the characters - Edwin, Charles, Crystal, Niko, The Cat King, and even Monty. All of them are great, but I love watching Edwin and Charles. As much as I loved their friendship, my favorite friendship is the one between Edwin and Niko - they are delightful together. As for the cast themselves everyone gives a fantastic performance, but I was blown away by George Rexstrew as Edwin. It's his debut film and tv performance and everything at that! Anyway, I can't recommend this spinoff of The Sandman enough (it even has a couple of great cameos). I have my fingers crossed that it will be renewed for a second season and hopefully many more. I will miss these characters too much otherwise! Plus, I need to see Edwin and Niko's friendship back on my screen. I also want to mention that I even watched the opening titles play through on each episode - from the tune to the images it really fits the series.

I rewatched the first four episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Season 1 (2022) since season two is supposed to be released some time later this year and I want to be ready to jump back in. While this show isn't as good as the Peter Jackson movies, I just like being back in this world. So far this second time around, my favorite moments are still whenever Elrond, Durin, and Disa share the screen. Elrond and Durin are great on their own too, but together and with Disa they are totally golden. I also really appreciate Arondir as a new character. Arondir is probably the coolest of the new characters for the series as far as I'm concerned.

I watched the first episode of The Uncanny Counter, Season 2 (2023) and it's just awesome to be back. Season one was absolutely fantastic and just so far I'd say season 2 is looking up. The action in this series is a lot of fun and I loved that we got to see a little more of the wider world of the Counters too. My favorite aspect of this series though are the characters are all fantastic from So Mun, Ga Mo-tak, Do Ha-na, Chu Mae-ok, and Choi Jang-mul. I can't wait to see who the new member of the team will be.
What I Read So Far:
❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
I've never read anything from this author before so I had no idea what to expect with Another Fine Myth (Myth Adventures #1) by Robert Lynn Asprin. It's a lot of fun and quite funny. I wish I was able to read this back when it was brand new because I'm sure it really would have been something else way back then. It's a short read and while for the most part the sense of humor worked for me there are some moments that just made it drag on for me. I think I'll have to continue this series - I might have to see it I can get my hands on the audiobook editions.

All the Stars and Teeth (All the Stars and Teeth #1) by Adalyn Grace is a solid YA fantasy adventure. It takes a little too long to get going, but once it does it gets pretty fun. I don't know if I'll try the sequel any time soon, but maybe someday in the future I'll pick it up.

Sweep in Peace (Innkeeper Chronicles #2) by Ilona Andrews is such a fun sequel. I love how it blends both fantasy elements with sci-fi and it has a good sense of humor which I really appreciated. I'm very glad I decided to continue this series on GraphicAudio audiobook because the production is absolutely outstanding. I hope to continue it in the same format.

First Rider's Call (Green Rider #2) by Kristen Britain is a great YA fantasy sequel. I'm glad I decided to continue this series. I wish I had read this series back when it was new because I know I would have absolutely have been a big fan - maybe even more than I am now. I can't wait to see what's next for book three.
