The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Shutter by Courtney Alameda

Welcome to The Friday 56, a weekly meme hosted by Freda's Voice.

These are the rules:

1. Grab a book, any book.
2. Turn to page 56, or 56% on your eReader.
3. Find any sentence (or a few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you.
4. Post it.
5. Add the URL to your post in the link on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post.

I believe I'm also going to take part in Book Beginnings, a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader.  The rules are pretty simple - you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires.  Don't forget to link up your post's url with Rose City Reader.

This week I'm spotlighting Shutter by Courtney Alameda, which will be my next read.  It just came in for me at the library and I'm super excited to get to it!  Just look at it - isn't it beautiful!

My Book Beginnings:

Thursday, 10:44 P.M.

Call it reaper's insomnia, but the dead wouldn't let me sleep at night.  Every time the sun went down, I swore I sensed them stirring, starving.

Killing.

My Friday 56:

The word made my insides seize up.  Soulchain.  The loops on my stomach were starting to look like chain links, a conduit connecting me to a demon.  A vise-like pressure clamped down on my lungs, making my breaths shallow, dizzying.

I can honestly say - I'm now more excited to read this than I was before!  This has the potential to become a new favorite!

  1. The author did a great job of setting a creepy scene in the opening and creating a lot of tension in your Friday 56 excerpt. This book may be too scary for me!

  13. FYI: You left a comment on my blog, saying that your book club might be interested in reading WILLOW VALE by Alethea Williams. The author responded, saying that she can provide some copies, especially if the group will leave reviews. In case you're interested, here's her blog: http://actuallyalethea.blogspot.com/ or via Facebook message: https://www.facebook.com/AletheaWilliams.author
