The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Flygirl by Sherri L. Smith + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books.  For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook.  Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post.  As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader.   Then, for  50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

This week I'm spotlighting one of my July reads for Book Riot's 2017 Read Harder Challenge, Flygirl by Sherri L.Smith.  This novel fulfills my fourteenth task, which is to read a book about war.  Like I know I've mentioned on my blog before, I've always been fascinated by learning about women in WWII, the WASPs (aka the Women Airforce Service Pilots) in particular, so this book should be right up my alley.

Beginning:

It's Sunday afternoon, and the phonograph player is jumping like a clown in a parade the way Jolene and I are dancing.  We're cleaning the Wilson house and Nat King Cole's singing on the record.  It sounds fine.

56:

I don't say anything.  We are "that" side of the family, because Daddy married Mama.  My jaw tightens, but I don't back down.  I've gotten this far.  I'm not going to let anything stop me now.

50/50 Friday: Favorite/ Least Favorite Supernatural Being

Favorite: Vampire - My love of these started early with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.

Least Favorite: Jefferson Starships - Sorry monster hybrids from Supernatural.

  10. It's been a while since I've seen Flygirl around the blogosphere, but it's always piqued my interest. I always associate it with Code Name Verity and except for piloting, I actually don't know if the two have anything else in common.

    1. I can't say that I've ever seen it - I just happen to stumble upon it at a bargain outlet store and since I've always been interested in the topic I had to grab a copy! But I can totally see what you mean with Code Name Verity. Thanks for coming over, Alicia! :)
