The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Children of Blood and Bone (Legacy of Orïsha #1) by Tomi Adeyemi + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

This week I'm spotlighting one of my current reads which is also on of my most highly anticipated reads of the year, Children of Blood and Bone (Legacy of Orïsha #1) by Tomi Adeyemi.  I'm not that far through yet, but so far I'm already hooked - it's totally living up the hype so far!

Beginning:

Pick me.

It's all I can do not to scream.  I dig my nails into the marula oak of my staff and squeeze to keep from fidgeting.  Beads of sweat drip down my back, but I can't tell if it's from dawn's early heat or from my heart slamming against my chest.  Moon after moon I've been passed over.

Today can't be the same.

56:

I open the purse and the sight is beautiful I nearly cry.  The silver shines like the scales of the sailfish, its weight a promise of things to come.  Five hundred!  After a new boat, that's almost a year's worth of rest for Baba.  Finally.

50/50 Friday: Book You Can/ Can't Bring Yourself To Reread

Can - Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling - I don't reread often at all, but every now and then I go back and reread a small part of this series.

Can't - Cirque du Freak by Darren Shan - I loved this creative vampire series in my younger days, but I'm kind of scared to revisit it because what if it doesn't live up to my memories.

Comments

  1. I feel the same way about rereading books from long ago. I just don't want to ruin my memories😊

  5. I really like the excerpts and will have to add this book to my wishlist. I've been on the fence about it. This week I am spotlighting Triple Crown by Felix Francis. Happy reading!

  6. I know what you mean about the revisiting! A few years back I tried to reread a Piers Anthony fantasy series I had loved in early teenhood. What on earth had I seen to like?!

  9. Haha I also only reread parts of series' :) In the rare event I'll reread all of the books in a series, I'll skip to my favorite parts in each book, like the 'best of' moments! I've been meaning to reread HP and rewatch the movies; thanks for reminding me! Thanks for linking up, Lauren!
