Sci-Fi Month 2021 - The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Outpost (Donovan Trilogy #1) by W. Michael Gear

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, and Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader.  For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader.

Happy Friday everyone!  In honor of Sci-Fi Month 2021 (Image credit: Photo by Liu Zishan on 123RF.com with a quote from Babylon's Ashes by James S.A. Corey), this week I'm spotlighting my current Sci-Fi Month read, Outpost (Donovan Trilogy #1) by W. Michael Gear.  I found this not too long ago at a bargain outlet and it was entirely new to me, but it sounds awesome and that cover is something else!

Beginning:

An exhausted Talina Perez watched the sunrise on Donovan.  They still called it sunrise, even if the "sun" was officially named Capella and lay some thirty light-years from Earth.

56:

The shuttle banked, wings glowing, and the gs increased. Through his window he could see the circular body of water called "the Gulf."

Have you read this book?  Are you taking part in Sci-Fi Month this year?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting below!

  1. Is that a tower of bones and skeletons? Wow.... Nope, not taking part in Sci-Fi month. I think I need to start making a list of the best Sci-Fi books and start reading a few!

    Have a good weekend!

    1. It's a tough choice, but I love The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness, The Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, and Wayfarers by Becky Chambers. :)

  4. I need to start this series. I initially thought these were horror based on the covers but the last book caught my eye somewhere.

    1. I can see how anyone would guess horror at first. :)
