Sci-Fi Month 2021 - The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): The Fated Sky (Lady Astronaut Universe #2) by Mary Robinette Kowal

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, and Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader.  For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader.

Happy Friday everyone!  In honor of Sci-Fi Month 2021 (Image credit: Photo by Liu Zishan on 123RF.com with a quote from Babylon's Ashes by James S.A. Corey), this week I'm spotlighting my current Sci-Fi Month read, The Fated Sky (Lady Astronaut Universe #2) by Mary Robinette Kowal.  I loved book one and I'm so excited to be back to this series!

Beginning:

IAC HEAD WARNS ABOUT CUTS IN BUDGET
By JOHN W. FINNEY
Special to The National Times

Aug. 16, 1961 - Horace Clemons , head of the International Aerospace Coalition, warned the United Nations today that any cuts in the "minimal" space budget would make a manned Mars landing in this decade impossible.

56:

"He said that there were funding issues?" My body seemed to be five feet in front of me, down a long tunnel. "Nicole had mentioned something about it too, on the moon."

Have you read this book?  Are you taking part in Sci-Fi Month this year?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting below!

  1. Love the casual 'Oh yeah, someone mention this to me, while we were ON THE MOON!' This does sound like a very intriguing SciFi book, I'll keep an eye out for the series! The first one also looks good, although the climate cataclysm feels a bit too real these days xD Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a lovely weekend :)

  5. I didn't know there was a sequel. I heard very good things about book one. I might need to add these to my ever growing list of books to read.

    1. I think there are three books in the series, and the first two at least are more than worth the time!
