Sci-Fi Month 2021: Movies & TV Shows I Want To Watch This Month

Happy Wednesday everyone!  Today, in honor of Sci-Fi Month 2021 (Image credit: Photo by Liu Zishan on 123RF.com with a quote from Babylon's Ashes by James S.A. Corey), I'm sharing some sci-fi movies and TV shows I want to watch (or at least get started on) this month.  All of them will be first time watches for me.  We'll see how much I'll be able to get to.  You can follow along with my progress via Letterboxd for the movies and Korean tv series.  Read on to see what I'm hoping to watch this month:

Movies:

Eternals (2021) - I'm really looking forward to seeing the next MCU movie in theaters and I hope it will be possible with everything.  Ma Dong-seok, aka Don Lee, has quickly become a favorite of mine and of the entire cast I'm looking forward to seeing what he brings to the MCU the most as Gilgamesh.

Event Horizon (1997) - I've been told over and over that I need to see this sci-fi horror movie.  You usually can't go wrong with Sam Neill, Laurence Fishburne, and Jason Isaacs.

In the Shadow of the Moon (2019) - I've been eyeing this Netflix movie for quite a while and I hope it's going to be as good as it looks.

Moon (2009) - This is another one I've been told I need to try and this seems like the perfect time to give it a chance.

Outside the Wire (2021) - It's been been sitting on my Netflix watchlist for too long.  I need to get to this.  I'm looking forward to seeing Anthony Mackie and Enzo Cilenti.

Predator (1987) - I've never seen a single movie in this franchise, but I do like Arnold Schwarzenegger's sci-fi so it's time to get started.

Stowaway (2021) - Daniel Dae Kim is one of those actors I'm happy to see do well.

The Tomorrow War (2021) - It might be fun to see Yvonne Strahovski in a sci-fi action role again.

.TV Shows:

Cowboy Bebop - I'm not at all familiar with the original anime series, but I'm really looking forward to the Netflix live action series that will be released on November 19th.  John Cho is another actor I'm happy to see to well.

Dark Matter -  I've been eyeing this 3 season series on Netflix for awhile and it sounds like the perfect time to start in on it.

The Expanse, Season 2 - I loved the first season of this series which I  watched during last year's Sci-Fi Month and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Memories of the Alhambra - This Netflix Korean Sci-Fi augmented reality series looks like it's going to be really cool.

Orphan Black - I should have started in on this series years ago, but better late than never.

Rugal - So far I've watched the first episode of this series and it looks pretty cool so far and it's really action packed.  Also, I really enjoyed the Korean time travel serial killer police procedural series Tunnel (based on the same real life case that inspired Memories of Murder) and when I learned that the lead actor in that series, Choi Jin-hyuk, plays the lead in this as well, I immediately added it to my Netflix watchlist.  Plus, I've heard that this is compared to Daredevil so that sounds really promising.

Sisyphus - I happened to stumble across this Korean series on Netflix when I realized that the actor Kim Byung-chul from Tunnel also stars in this.  Plus, Park Shin-hye, the leading actress in this is also the leading actress in Memories of Alhambra.

Tales from the Loop - This sounds like it could be a really cool series and I always like seeing Rebecca Hall.

Have you watched any of these?  Which should I jump into first?  Are you taking part in Sci-Fi Month this year?

  1. I don't know a lot about Cowboy Bebop either, but the anime is on NetFlix right now, and I'm thinking of giving it a watch.

I also heard that NetFlix brought back the original Japanese voice actors to do the Japanese dub, which I thought was pretty cool for the fans of the anime.

  2. Oh, do you watch Korean dramas too? Same here, I'm a huge Kdrama addict. I haven't watched Tunnel yet, but have heard very good things about it. And if you get the chance, do try out the OST for Moon? I like it; very spooky, very surreal stuff from Clint Mansell.

    1. Oh yes! All of the Kdramas I've watched so far have been great - so much talent. Netflix has really been fueling my addiction. ;)

  4. I am SO excited for The Eternals. And Sisyphus on Netflix I thought looked good but haven't tried it yet... Tals from the Loop wasn't bad, a little disappointing I thought (I was expecting so much because I LOVE the Simon Stalenhag art that inspired it) but worth a watch.

I love Dark Matter so much I bought it on DVD lol, and Orphan Black is amazing. Especially those first few seasons...

  5. I watched Event Horizon for the first time last month and I enjoyed it but learning about the deleted scenes that were destroyed in a salt mine made me think that something was missing from it. I hope you enjoy it though! And I absolutely adore the original Cowboy Bebop series but I'm a little sceptic about the Netflix series because I think John Cho's too old to portray Spike, who's supposed to be 27. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong!

    1. I just finished it as well - and I caught that too. I definitely liked it though - I really liked the look of it.

John Cho is usually always good, so I hope so too.
