Wyrd & Wonder 2023 - The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Before They Are Hanged (The First Law #2) by Joe Abercrombie

On Friday's I take part in two weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, and Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader.  For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader.

Happy Friday everyone!  In honor of Wyrd & Wonder 2023 (a month long celebration of all things fantasy co-hosted by Lisa @ Dear Geek Place, imyril @ There’s Always Room For One More, Ariana @ The Book Nook, Annemieke @ A Dance With Books, and Jorie @ Jorie Loves A Story with artwork by astromoali), The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings) will be featuring one of the books I'm reading for this month's TBR.  This week I'm featuring Before They Are Hanged (The First Law #2) by Joe Abercrombie.  The first book in this series was great and I can't wait to catch up on the rest of it.

Beginning:

Damn mist.  It gets in your eyes, so you can't see no more than a few strides ahead.

56:

The sun pressed down on crumbling battlements like a great weight.

Are you taking part in Wyrd & Wonder this year?  Have you read this book, or have you seen the movie?  As always, thanks for visiting and perhaps even commenting down below!

  1. I've heard a lot of praise for this series. I haven't read any of the books myself. I like the quotes, though. Have a great weekend!

  4. I've not heard of this book before. But I have experienced that deep, deep fog. Once it hung around our neighborhood for days. Awful. So gloomy.

  5. I have heard good things about Abercrombie and this series, but I haven't read it yet. I like how these two excerpts are so different but both include elements about the weather--from mist to sun. Thank you for sharing! Have a great weekend!
