The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): The Revenge of the Hound by Michael Hardwick

On Friday's I take part in two weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, and Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader.  For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader.

Happy Friday everyone!  This week I'm spotlighting one of my Spell It Out Reading Challenge 2023 books, The Revenge of the Hound by Michael Hardwick.  This sounds like it will be a cool sequel to the classic Holmes story.  I've been meaning to read this for so long.

Beginning:

I have never been able to decide, to this day, whether or not Sherlock Holmes knew my intentions.  That he had some inkling of them, I cannot doubt; his inquiring hints were so obvious, while the tactics by which he sought to trick me into revealing all were almost totally transparent.

56:

As soon as Holmes reminded me of Oliver Cromwell's posthumous fate, I recalled learning it as a boy.  My flesh had crept upon picturing that unrelenting revenge which Charles II had taken upon all who had been associated in any way with his father's execution in 1649.

Have you read this book?  What are you reading this month?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
