SciFi Month 2024 - Sunday Funday: Week 2 Update

Happy Sunday everyone and welcome to my second weekly update for SciFi Month 2024!  Sci-Fi Month is a month long celebration of all things sci-fi and it's hosted by Lisa @ Dear Geek Place, Imyril @ There's Always Room For One More, Annemieke @ A Dance With Books, and Mayri @ Book Forager (Image credit: Artwork by Sxwx).  In terms of the challenge, I've had a pretty good week - not so much with other stuff though.  Last Tuesday was, uh, quite a disappointment.  Anyways, back to this stuff, I've made more progress on my tbr and I've completed more of my watchlist as well.  Keep reading to see what I got up to since last time:

My SciFi Month Posts This Week:

What I Watched This Week:

 ❋  ❋

I can't believe it, but I finished The MandalorianSeason 1 (2019) since last week,  It just got better and better.  Basically, I've only had the Mandalorian and the Child for a little more than a week and I feel like I would do just about anything for them.  Like I said before, I really appreciate just how much this series has been leaning into the western elements in style, soundtrack, and characters.  My favorite guest casting was when I realized that Natalia Tena (who I primarily recognize as Tonks in the Harry Potter movies) as Xi'ran in the sixth episode along with Ismael Cruz Cordova (Arondir from The Rings of Power) as Qin there as well.  Anyway, I can't wait to watch the next season because I need to know what happens next.

 ❋.5
Absolutely Anything (2015) is fine, but it doesn't really stand out and isn't all that memorable either.  It is always good to see Simon Pegg though. Plus, this is Robin Williams last movie as well so that's something.  The biggest surprise was seeing Sanjeev Bhaskar in this movie as well.

My review is also on Letterboxd.

 ❋

Lost in SpaceSeason 1 (2018) is a series I've been putting off for way too long given how much fun I've had with the original series.  So far I've only watched the first episode, but it's a pretty great introduction to the setting and characters.  Plus, it looks fantastic and has a cool soundtrack.  I'm liking how they're adapting the original 1960s show.  In the original, my favorite characters were easily Dr. Smith and the Robot and so far the Robot is fascinating and I can't wait to learn more about the new "Dr. Smith".  Plus, I have to say I that I yelled at my tv when the Robot said "Danger, Will Robinson" and when the original theme song played at the end.  That was really fun and I can't wait to see more.  This show might become a favorite.

What I Read This Week:

 ❋  ❋

Starsight (Skyward #2) by Brandon Sanderson is just as fantastic as the first book in the series.  I loved seeing more of the characters, more of their world, and that the story doesn't waste time.  It really kept me on the edge of my seat.  Now I have to know what happens next in Cytonic!

My review is also on Goodreads.

 ❋
This Cruel Design (This Mortal Coil #2) by Emily Suvada was a great sequel and the audiobook has a great production. It might have been a bit confusing to follow the action by the final act, but I was still pleased with how it turned out. I have to read book three asap and hopefully I won't wait so long between books this time.

My review is also on Goodreads.

 ❋
The Epidemic (The Program #4) by Suzanne Young was great, but I wouldn't say that it quite surpassed The Remedy.  It was good to be following the same characters though and I found especially appreciated how it wrapped up.  I can't wait to read the next novel in the series.

My review is also on Goodreads.

 ❋

The Crawling Terror (Doctor Who: New Series Adventures #54) by Mike Tucker  is a solid story featuring the 12th Doctor and Clara.  The storyline itself is pretty decent, but I wasn't quite sold on Clara and the Doctor.  I get that it's supposed to be earlier days for the 12th Doctor and that he's not all that well defined yet in terms of the tv show, but I was hoping for a bit more.

My review is also on Goodreads.

Are you taking part in SciFi Month 2024?  Have you read or watched either of these?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  2. I literally started watching Dr. Who for the first time ever yesterday, inspired by Sci-Fi Month of course! :) I think I watched one or two episodes of the new Lost in Space but for some reason I just never kept watching.
