SciFi Month 2024 - Sunday Funday: Week 3 Update

Happy Sunday everyone and welcome to my third weekly update for SciFi Month 2024!  Sci-Fi Month is a month long celebration of all things sci-fi and it's hosted by Lisa @ Dear Geek Place, Imyril @ There's Always Room For One More, Annemieke @ A Dance With Books, and Mayri @ Book Forager (Image credit: Artwork by Sxwx).  I'd say I've had a pretty good week  for this challenge.  I've made more progress on my tbr and I've completed more of my watchlist as well.  Keep reading to see what I got up to since last time:

My SciFi Month Posts This Week:

Books From The Backlog - The Forge of God (Forge of God #1) by Greg Bear

The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): The Crawling Terror (Doctor Who: New Series Adventures #54) by Mike Tucker

What I Watched This Week:

 ❋
I've been meaning to watch The Butterfly Effect (2004) for so long and I'm glad I decided to watch this during SciFi Month.  Ashton Kutcher's not normally an actor I like to watch, but his performance here was a pleasant surprise. The biggest surprise to me about the casting in this was realizing that Elden Henson, Logan Lerman, and Kevin Durand all appear.

My review is also on Letterboxd.

The premise of Altered States (1980)  is an interesting one, but it ended up just not being for me. Maybe if Eddie weren't so grating I would have cared more for this pretentious picture.

My review is also on Letterboxd.

❋.5
I liked the first one, but I should have just skipped The Platform 2 (2024). There were several ways they could have taken a sequel, but this is basically just a sloppy rehash of the first.

My review is also on Letterboxd.

 ❋

I watched the first episode of Travelers, Season 2 (2017) this week and realized just how much I missed the show.  I watched Season 1 way back for last year's Sci-Fi Month and really enjoyed it.  I'm glad I decided to read a season one recap before jumping back into it.  I really like these characters and can't wait to see what's next up for this season.

What I Read This Week:

I wish I would have liked Fall; or, Dodge in Hell by Neal Stephenson  more. It starts off pretty well, but I quickly realized I didn't have the patience for nearly 900 pages of this book.  I'm really disappointed in myself given how much I've loved other books from Stephenson in the past.

My review is also on Goodreads.

Honestly, Noir by K.W. Jeter wasn't at all what I was looking for in a dark cyberpunk sci-fi novel.  I like noir, cyberpunk, and dystopia, but this just didn't sit well with me.

My review is also on Goodreads.

Are you taking part in SciFi Month 2024?  Have you read or watched any of these?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  2. I'm sure I've seen Altered States but I don't remember much about it. Now I'm curious!
