The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): The White Company by A. Conan Doyle + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

This week I'm spotlighting one of my Beat the Backlist reads, The White Company by A. Conan Doyle.

Beginning:

The great bell of Beaulieu was ringing.

56:

At early dawn the country inn was all alive, for it was rare indeed that an hour of daylight would be wasted at a time when lightning was so scarce and dear.

50/50 Friday: Best/Worst Bookish Christmas Gift

Best - A book!

Worst - A bookmark.  I love bookmarks, but I usually end up using everything and everything else instead.

What are you reading this weekend?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  1. I don't think I've ever received a bookmark as a gift, which is strange now that I think about it!

  2. Fun fact: Beaulieu is really fun to say.
Also fun fact: People look at you weird when you sit there in public saying "Beaulieu" out loud to yourself. xD
I haven't read this book yet, but it sounds interesting.

    Here's my Friday post.

  3. Not a book I am familiar with. I also looked up the bell mentioned in the beginning. Beaulieu Abbey is where Doyle was referring to. Quite interesting. :-)
Wishing you the best for 2020!!

  4. Me toooo! (What you said about bookmarks, haha!) I love bookmarks, but I always misplace them. I typically dog-ear my pages anyways, so...

    1. I usually pick up whatever's close at hand instead of a bookmark first...

  5. I hadn't heard of this book before. Thanks for sharing.

    1. And as for bookmarks. I have a huge collection, but I keep them all neat and clean in a box and just use one or two from TBD (ones of which I have more than one the same). :)

  6. I haven't had my Christmas gift getting session yet. I doubt I got any books though, since I kind of hate getting books. Because then people expect me to read them on their timeline. My Friday Quotes

  7. That 56 has me wondering what's happening at the country inn! :)

  8. Ha Ha! Yes, the bookmark is the last thing I use to mark pages in my books. On the other hand, I can always find an appreciate home for books if they don't work for me.

  9. I love bookmarks so much but because they're so pretty I find myself scared to use them lol. I usually end up using pieces of paper that I rip into strips haha.

Thanks for linking up and I hope you're having a great weekend!
