The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Avalon by Anya Seton + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

This week I'm spotlighting one of my upcoming Beat the Backlist reads, Avalon by Anya Seton.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm a sucker for anything related to King Arthur, so I'm really looking forward to this one.

Beginning:

The fogs were still dripping in from the Atlantic when Merewyn met the stranger by the Camel River.

56:

Dunstan's hands fell from his staff, he gave a long quivering sigh.  "Forgive me, my son," he whispered.

50/50 Friday: Favorite/ Least Favorite Book Of November

Favorite - Aurora Rising (The Aurora Cycle #1) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff - I read several great books, but I think this tops my list!

Least Favorite - Purrfect Magic (Whisker Witchcraft #1) by Samantha Coville - I wanted to like this, but the lead character really rubbed me the wrong way.

Have you read any of these books?  What are you reading this week?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  3. I absolutely fell in love with everything Arthur and Morgana related when I read 'The Mists of Avalon', so I absolutely understand. I haven't heard of this one yet, so I'll definitely look it up on Goodreads! I hope you have a lovely weekend and do drop by my Friday Post if you have the time! - Juli @ A Universe in Words

  8. Purrfect Magic got my attention because of the cats :) Too bad it wasn't a favorite :( I hate when the lead character annoys you.

  9. I share your weakness for King Arthur, too. xD This sounds like an interesting read! I'm glad to see that you thought Aurora Rising was so good! I can't wait to read it.

  10. I think I have that book as well. I loved King Arthur myths as a teen. If you want to see Queen Guinevere fully fleshed out and just more than a lover of Lancelot, a Guinevere with past and future beyond Camelot, check out Nicole Evelina's wonderful The Guinevere's Tale Trilogy which details Guinevere's life from the time she was a young girl to the time she is an old woman.
