Happy Saturday everyone! I hope everyone's been staying healthy. May seems to have passed pretty quickly in comparison to the last few couple of months as things slowly and hopefully begin to head back toward normal. Anyway, I've now completed 10 out of 24 books of
Book Riot's 2020 Read Harder Challenge! The tasks I completed required me to read a retelling of a classic of the canon, fairytale, or myth by an author of color
and a
historical fiction novel not set in WWII. For the tasks, I selected Pride by Ibi Zoboi and
Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Pride by Ibi Zoboi is a unique and quickly paced YA Contemporary
Pride and Prejudice retelling. It probably would have a three star rating because I didn't feel as invested as I should have been in the story itself, but I think Elizabeth Acevedo's narration of the audiobook was fantastic. She does a fantastic job of bringing the cast and their world to life. The production of the audiobook definitely bumped this up from three stars to four.

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid is an all new favorite. I'm so glad I finally took the plunge and gave it a try. I don't know why I was worried since I loved
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I think I liked this one a little more actually. I can't recommend this enough, especially on audiobook. The audiobook has a great full cast of incredibly talented narrators, including a couple of my favorites with January LaVoy (totally the reason I decided to listen in this format) and Julia Whelan. I'm going to have to read more books set in the 1970s which I tend to skip over. I can't wait to try whatever this author cares to write next.

Goldie Vance Vol. 1 by Hope Larson and Brittney Williams - I don't know about you, but this graphic novel series sounds like a really fun updated take on the
Nancy Drew archetype.
Read a romance starring a single parent
My choice:
Tempest (Old West #3) by Beverly Jenkins - This author has been on my radar for awhile now. She's very popular at my library, so I'm interested to see what it's all about.

DeleteI had no idea Elizabeth Acevedo narrated Pride. Very cool. I liked the book. I grew up not far from where the story was set, and I really related to the neighbor vibe.
