Books From The Backlog - The Thirty-Nine Steps (Richard Hannay #1) by John Buchan

Happy Thursday everyone! Welcome back to Books from the Backlog, the weekly linkup I'm taking part of which is hosted by Carole's Random Life in Books.  This is a great way to put a spotlight on books that I've had sitting on my shelf for awhile.  I don't know when I'll get to my weekly featured book, but I hope to some time hopefully soon.

This Week's Neglected Book

The Thirty-Nine Steps (Richard Hannay #1) by John Buchan

Published: 2015 (This Edition: 1964)

Genre: Adventure

My Copy:

Format: Hardback

Pages: 145

Where I Acquired It: An antique shop with a big book section

Summary Per Goodreads:

Adventurer Richard Hannay, just returned from South Africa, is thoroughly bored with London life-until he is accosted by a mysterious American, who warns him of an assassination plot that could completely destabalise the fragile political balance of Europe.

Initially sceptical, Hannay nonetheless harbours the man-but one day returns home to find him murdered ... An obvious suspect, Hannay flees to his native Scotland, pursued by both the police and a cunning, ruthless enemy.

His life and the security of Britan are in grave peril, and everything rests on the solution to a baffling enigma: where and what are the 'thirty-nine steps'?

Why Did I Add It?

So I had no idea that this was a book, but I really enjoyed the two movie adaptations I've seen - the 1935 from Alfred Hitchcock and the 1959 from Ralph Thomas.  I've since heard that both are a bit different from the original story so I guess I'll find out.

Have you read this thoughts or would you read it?  Would you recommend it to me?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  1. I do recognize the name from the movie, but I didn't realize it was a book. Hopefully you can read it at some point😁
