Halloween Reads - Wrap Up & Mini Reviews

Happy Halloween everyone!  Today, I'm sharing my Halloween Reads wrap up and mini reviews.  I had a pretty great reading month this October.  If you like, you can check out my original tbr here.  Without further ado, keep reading to see my thoughts on what I read:

 ❋ ❋

Angel of the Overpass (Ghost Roads #3) by Seanan McGuire is a great series finale.  I love Seanan McGuire's brand of urban fantasy and this series from her is totally underrated.  If you're at all interested in ghost stories, I can't recommend it enough.  By the way, I listened to the audiobook edition of this story and Amy Landon does a great job of bring Rose and her world to life.

My review is also on Goodreads and my Book Riot's Read Harder Challenge - October Update.

 ❋ ❋

I was not at all expecting Blood Pact (Vicki Nelson #4) by Tanya Huff to do what it did, but this is easily my favorite installment of the series so far. I can't wait to see what's next.  The previous installment was my least favorite by far, but I'd say this one is the best of the series so far.  This installment gets very personal, and does it very well.

My review is also on Goodreads.

 ❋

The Dance (Final Friends #2) by Christopher Pike is a solid sequel that I think I slightly preferred to book one.  I'll have to try the finale sometime in the future.  I have a feeling that if I read this when I was back in high school I may have liked this more than I do now.

My review is also on Goodreads.

Fevre Dream by George R.R. Martin sounded like it had potential but it just wasn't for me.  It's way too long, I'm not quite interested in steamboats enough, and some of the "historical" elements were unnecessary for me.

My review is also on Goodreads.

 ❋ ❋

Flesh & Bone (Rot & Ruin #3) by Jonathan Maberry is another great installment of this series.  If you're at all interested in YA horror or zombie stories, you can't miss it.  For a moment, I almost forgot just how fast these read. I'm looking forward to seeing what will happen in book four.

My review is also on Goodreads.

 ❋ ❋

Parasite (Cymic Parasite Breach #1-5) by Darcy Coates is a great space horror! It's more like a collection of novellas and I wish we got a little more time with everyone, but otherwise it's very effective.  Darcy Coates is one of my favorite authors and this can't be missed.

My review is also on Gooodreads.

 ❋

I don't think The Party (Final Friends #1) by Christopher Pike  needed to be 212 pages, but I still enjoyed it. Lots of juicy drama, that's for sure!

My review is also on Goodreads.

I really wanted The Remaking by Clay McLeod Chapman to work for me but it never quite did.  The description sounded like it would be right up my alley, but I wasn't very fond of the format and style.  I also wish I would have become more attached to the characters and interested in what was in store for them.  I wouldn't mind trying more from this author all things said.

My review is also on Goodreads.

 ❋ ❋

Reviver (Reviver Trilogy #1) by Seth Patrick ended up being quite a pleasant surprise and a great choice for the spooky season.  I'd say that the first half of this is amazing, but the second half of the novel is close but not quite as amazing.  I really liked how this does such a good job of blending procedural with horror fantasy elements.  I am really looking forward to trying the rest of the trilogy.

My review is also on Goodreads.

 ❋

Strange Weather: Four Short Stories by Joe Hill has been on my tbr for ages and I'm glad I could finally check it off.  It's a good solid read overall, but the individual stories could be a little hit or miss for me.  I think I liked Loaded and Rain the most of the four.

My review is also on Goodreads.

 ❋ ❋

The Whispering Pines (Exit 13 #1) by James Preller is a solid MG horror series opener.  I wish our lead siblings were a little more fleshed out, but it does do well in terms of creepy atmosphere.  I did appreciate the split between text and graphic novel panels, but I wished it was split more evenly that way.  There's not nearly as many graphic novel panels as I was hoping for in comparison to text.  The art really suits the tone as well.  I definitely want to check out book two, The Spaces in Between.

My review is also on Goodreads and my Book Riot's Read Harder Challenge - October Update.
