The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Suspicious Minds (Stranger Things #1) by Gwenda Bond + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

This week I'm spotlighting my second read for Monstrous March, Suspicious Minds (Stranger Things #1) by Gwenda Bond.  Since Stranger Things is one of my favorite shows I'm really excited to finally be reading this!

Beginning:

JULY 1969
Hawkins National Laboratory
Hawkins, Indiana

The man drove an immaculate black car along a flat Indiana road, slowing when he came to a chain-link gate with a RESTRICTED AREA sign.  The guard stationed there peered in the window for the briefest moment, then checked his license plate and waved him through.

56:

What had their days been like?  Terry was desperate to ask, but she kept the question inside.  There was always next time.

50/50 Friday: Dystopian World You'd Want To Live In/ Not Live In

Not Live In - Panem from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - No, thank you!

Live In - The OASIS from Ready Player One by Ernest Cline - I'm pretty sure this is the only not completely terrible choice.

  8. Hum, somehow I missed Stranger Things. I will look for it.

Not many places defined as dystopian would be a good place to live, but I agree Hunger Games is the worst.

  10. I'm not a big fan of the scary books. I hope you enjoy this one. This week I am featuring Murder in Belgravia by Lynn Brittney from my review stack. Happy reading!

  11. Not sure that opening line is the most compelling. Hope you are enjoying the book, however. My Firda quotes for Unsheltered

  13. I didn't know they had come out with a book series based on Stranger Things! I love that show too.

I really need to watch the movie Ready Player One. I loved the audiobook. I agree with you about Panem. I wouldn't want to live in that world at all either.

  14. I didn't even think of the Oasis but I completely agree: out of all the dystopians, Ready Player One has an actually okay world (a digital replacement world but a world nonetheless). Thanks for linking up, Lauren!
